There are a variety of conditions that can cause noticeable, uneven, demarcated or diffuse skin discolouration. You may be born with the condition, inherit genes that lead to the discolouration surfacing later in life, or be exposed to environmental factors that cause the discolouration.

Pigmentation that tends towards brown is often caused by an overproduction of melanin, while discolouration that tends towards red may be from broken capillaries.

Either our IPL Intense Pulsed Light machine or Nd:YAG laser may used to target red (haemoglobin) and/or brown (melanin) discolouration. The condition will determine which choice of machine we will use. Peels, Fraxel non-invasive skin resurfacing and Dermaroller treatments may also be considered depending on the problem being tackled.
